In America the first thought for an ideal gift for mother on her special day might be carnations. In Australia, the chrysanthemum is the flower of choice, while British mothers are happy with a bunch of spring flowers. As a mother I’ll accept any flower my child has lovingly brought to me, even the sour sobs picked from the garden. When my eldest son was eight, the extended family booked a houseboat and spent the days leading up to Mother's Day cruising on the river. I was lucky enough to be presented with his first big catch that morning. I opened my eyes to my son standing next to my bed with the fishing rod and the fish still bobbing about on the end of the line.
“Mum, Mum, I caught you a fish for breakfast.” It was a Mother’s Day I will treasure as among the very best. While I'm not suggesting you catch a fish for your Mother this coming Mother's Day, I can't help but think how wonderful she would feel if you did something special, something especially for her.

Mothers Deserve the Best
Many say we are way too commercialised in the modern era for any gift to portray the true meaning of giving. But if we look honesty at how we feel about our mothers, don’t they deserve the best? Whether that gift is the finest jewellery, a crystal vase, a simple bunch of flowers or a handmade card, the best comes, not from the gift but the child’s thoughtfulness in remembering and recognising the occasion.
Mothers spend their entire lives devoted to their children. No matter if that child is a baby being nursed in her arms or an adult stepping out to find their own way in life, a mother continues to nurture, teach and protect. The way I learned to look after my children was through the example of my mother. I would hope that I have lived up to her standards in the lessons I have passed on to my children.
Something must have worked when I think back to all those wonderful years when my children were small being greeted with a breakfast tray, flowers, a hand made card and my two young sons shouting out, Happy Mother's Day!

Happy Mother's Day
Children grow and time separates. I am thousands of miles away from my mother and my children are hundreds of miles away from me. Mother's Day in our family has evolved to picking up the phone and making a call or sending flowers with a special message on the card. How ever you decide to celebrate Mother's Day this year, take a moment to remember those years when your mother was the heart and soul of your world. If you can't be with her on her special day, at least let her know how much she means to you. Happy Mother's Day!

Mother's Day is recognition for the selfless devotion to family, so a day of pampering and relaxation is great along with a cheerful reminder that one is appreciated.
A widowed mom with an empty nest may want unrushed companionship along with tea and cookies.

Good point kafsoa, none of this means anything if the kids don't read it! I remember breakfast served in bed only to wander into the kitchen to find more dishes, pots and pans that needed cleaning than my bench top space allowed. And there was no dishwasher back then.

Flowers strike me as among the most impractical of gifts. You can't really do anything with them but watch the cat eat them and get sick. Now a good, sturdy vacuum...
i would like someone cook dinner for me if i don't have to wash up after.mother's shouldn't do any thing on that day.
ShortStory it doesn't matter if flowers are impractical. I can't speak for all mothers but I know how much fresh flowers brighten the room. The trick is to keep them away from the cat. Besides, I've already got a reliable, sturdy vacuum.
Thastar I would hope that you wouldn't have to clean up after someone else if they have gone to all that trouble to cook you a lovely meal on Mother's Day. It is true it should be a day of total relaxation for any mother.

William.fischer29 what makes mother feel special is that a child acknowledges her. For most mothers there is no need for fancy expensive gifts at all. A simple 'Happy Mother's Day' greeting is more than enough.

Those are some good Mother's Day gift ideas that I'll have to remember next year. My mom has a Pandora charm bracelet so I got her new charms and a few other little things.

My mom is easy to please on mothers day. All we do is make a nice lunch for her to enjoy. Which I do every sunday anyway.
Most mothers are happy enough with spending time with their children on mother's day. We used to always do the Sunday roast with mum and grandma.

Nice hub! I agree about most of the things and really believe that mothers deserve the best. Commercialized world plays its role in the interrelations between mothers and childs but, I don’t thing its a main obstacle when the child really love his mother and value how important mothers role is in life.
i will do anything to have my mother back in my life.i love my mother very much.but what about fathers who take care of there children just like mothers do they are mother and father to there kids they deserved some up lifting lets think about them as mothers to.
